What is a doula?

A doula is a trained labor companion who supports a woman before, during and after childbirth helping her make the best decisions during an important life event. A doula helps a couple gain the education needed to feel empowered with the choices they make bringing their little one into the world. A doula provides comfort measures to the woman and encouragement to the couple during labor and after birth helping relieve stress and fear giving a family the best possible start.

Why work together?

Childbirth is a life experience that will be remembered by a woman for all her life. Although no birth outcome can be predicted, it is proven with good support that any birth can feel like a positive experience. It is my aim to help a woman work with her body through labor rather than resist and have strength rather than fear in the normal process of birth. I want to encourage women and help them believe in their body's ability to give birth. As a prenatal yoga teacher, I strive to help women be prepared both physically and mentally for childbirth and becoming a mother. When a mom feels well supported through the cycle of pregnancy, childbirth and into the postnatal period, we are helping families get off on the best possible start on the journey of parenthood.

After two births in Shanghai where I felt supported and empowered by my birth team, I was drawn to help women also have a positive birth experience. I am a certified birth doula with DONA International (www.dona.org). I am a RPYT (Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher) and E-RYT 200  with the Yoga Alliance.  I am a Certified Lactation Educator and Counselor (CLEC) receiving my certification from UC San Diego. I have been supporting women through pregnancy and after birth with yoga since 2005.
